Kiran Kamath

Position: Monterey Peninsula College (Retired) and Board Member

Kiran Kamath’s global experience includes working in Canada, China, India and the USA. She has wide ranging experience in the travel industry in India, Canada and the United States. Her global teaching experience includes serving as faculty at Xiamen University, China and at Mount Saint Vincent University, Canada. She has extensive experience in career and technical education. She served as Director of a nationally recognized Travel and Tourism program where she designed an innovative curriculum and a very vibrant internship program for students in the travel industry. She then went on to become Dean of Career and Technical
Education at Los Medanos College in Pittsburg, California. As Dean, she was instrumental in developing programs “with industry for industry” such as the Process Technology and Electrical and Instrumentation Technology programs in partnership with the petro-chemical and manufacturing industries with the support of local government, labor and the Workforce Development Board of Contra Costa County, CA. These programs lead to high skill-high wage jobs for students graduating with a certificate or a two-year degree.

Kiran served in roles of increasing responsibility as Senior Dean of Instruction and the founding Senior Dean of Planning and Institutional Effectiveness and Accreditation Liaison Officer at Los Medanos College. Most recently, she served as the Vice President of Academic Affairs, Provost and Accreditation Liaison Officer at Monterey Peninsula College where she provided administrative leadership to achieve full accreditation. At MPC, she successfully led the development of the Teacher Education Pathway from MPC to California State University Monterey Bay. Her accreditation experience includes serving as a peer reviewer on accreditation teams for the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges.

After retiring from academia, Kiran continues to very involved in Monterey County. She currently serves on the Board of Trustees of Montage Health/Community Hospital of Monterey Peninsula, the Board of the Arts Council of Monterey County, and the Board of the Franklin Legacy Fund. As an active Rotarian, she is Director for Youth and Education on the Board of the Rotary Club of Monterey Peninsula and is responsible for the mentorship program with CSU Monterey Bay.

She holds a B.A. in Economics and Public Administration from Osmania University (India), a Post Graduate Diploma in Travel and Tourism from Bombay University (India), an Extended Studies Diploma in French from Simon Fraser University (Canada), and an M.A. in French Linguistics from Simon Fraser University (Canada). She is passionately engaged in giving back and paying it forward in the areas of education, health, and the arts. She and her husband, Dr. Shyam Kamath, also an educator, live in Marina, California.
